Marie France Van Damme Trunk Show Celebrated With Bergdorf’s Luncheon
On Thursday afternoon, friends of Canadian-born, Hong Kong-based designer Marie France Van Damme gathered in Bergdorf Goodman’s BG restaurant to toast the designer and shop her trunk show of luxury resortwear. Alina Cho hosted Jennifer Creel, Marigay McKee and Cameron Silver to celebrate her friend’s trunk show.
While beach-ready caftans are France Van Damme’s specialty, it was her cropped fur jacket that had attendees ogling.
“I do minks for my store,” the designer explained. “And Alina loves my mink and she’s convinced that I should have them for New York. But now we’re really into more of the resort wear department. The whole idea when I started the collection was to do things that I want to wear — so with the mink, it was that I wanted to wear a little fur coat and I couldn’t find one on the market.”
Her label, which launched in 2011, was inspired by her desire to find beach looks in more urban patterns, instead of the usual oranges and turquoises. “Bergdorf’s was my second retailer, after Marigay at Harrods,” France Van Damme said, motioning to McKee. “It’s funny because when I first started with the collection, it was going to be for resorts and hotels,” she said, of her collaboration with One and Only Resorts. “But then I just happened to meet Marigay and the Bergdorf’s team, and we’ve been together since the very beginning.”
The back room of the restaurant was filled with friends of France Van Damme’s and Cho, her cohost. “We met in Paris, through mutual friends, and I just love what she does,” Cho said of her friend.
