Why the "C " of Chanel on lampposts in London? I have been wondering for years if the Coco Chanel logo on London's lampposts had anything to do with Chanel or did it just happen to be an old City of Wesminster logo Chanel had a romantic relationship with the Duke of Wesminster for a full decade The legend states that the duke was so infatuated with Chanel, that as a token of his affection, all lampposts in Wesminster were embossed with her CC logo along side his W crest. But the City of Wesminster says CC stands for City Counsel and has no relation to Chanel Like most.. I am a romantic... and I prefer to believe that the... Read More

What is "Life à la MF" ?
Little stories about everyday life
A passion for beautiful things
A passion for fashion, food, family, friends, travels, objects, art, animals, a passion for life.
I was quite surprised and very disappointed to receive an email from one of our stockists, a beautiful Resort in Turks & Caicos. It read “Some guests just won’t buy your garments because they are Made in China”. The email was signed “China” . I was not sure if this is the name of the store manager or just a funny human error. I replied something along the lines of: “I have lived in Hong Kong for over 30 years. My children were born here. I have worked in Hong Kong in the fashion industry since the early 80’s. I invested in a small garment factory in China in the early 90’s; I was very proud then (and now) as a... Read More
Make Your Mark in New York…And You Are A Made (Wo) man, Mark Twain And so to New York for another whirlwind week of work abroad. I love this place even on ordinary days but during Fashion Weeks, the energy is incredible -- the city is buzzing with fashionistas, editors and buyers. It is, of course, also a tremendous place to shop but the exciting thing for me is that this time I was there to shop….for a shop. Yes – that’s right – I can reveal to you that MFVD is considering expanding with a boutique in NY. So I have set about trying to find somewhere beautiful on Madison Avenue and the Upper East Side. But my goodness, the... Read More

Difficult...but if your closets are super organised...black and whites on one side, colors on the other, shoes properly stored / bags that you can see (don’t leave them in boxes) It might be easier for you to pack... This summer I need to pack for many different cities. London is one way of dressing, Paris another, Knokke Le Zoute for the weekend is a completely different way of dressing, but quite similar to Montreal, then New York is more like Paris and LA...well that is a mix between London, Montreal and Paris… First thing I always do is look at the weather forecast for the next 10 days...I always remember these places can be cool/ cold at night. Then I... Read More
Some of our caftans can take up to 5 hours and more...of hand beading, one pearl at a time. It is all about passion and dedication. When a garment is completed, we are all like children, clapping our hands, excited. Most of our garments are handmade/hand embroidered with beads or sequins by ladies I have worked with for over 20 years; I often say ''what we do is Haute Couture,'' as each piece is made one by one with so much care. ''Mass garment production'' which I also do as a garment manufacturer for the Department stores, is the production of large amount of products, it's a chain production. Workers each work on one individual step, rather than having to... Read More
This is what I love about Hong Kong...only minutes away from my home are beautiful white sand beaches, often deserted. Hong Kong people prefer shopping! to walking, hiking, swimming. Many don’t take advantage of this incredible scenery because they don’t even know it exits!!! "Paradise" is often at your door step... Read More
Hong Kong Art Basel, one of the world most important art fair for collectors, artists, dealers, curators, critics and art lovers, just took place in Hong Kong. The city was "buzzing" with people (very famous people !!!) from all over the world....the "apocalyptic weather" did not alter our moods... Perhaps not everyone was thrilled to land in the middle of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the early morning of the opening day. When the black rain signal was issued, Hong Kong came to a complete stand still. However the Art fair has been a great success, and our gallerist friends were most excited about all the sales that have taken place during the show. Here I am with 2 friends,... Read More
