I met Kim in Hong Kong many, many years ago. Kim was known then and still is as the hairdresser to the star, from Hong Kong high society tais tais to visiting royalty. One year for my husband's birthday, he arrived at my home with a huge painting, une œuvre d’art signe ... Kim
I immediately fell in love with the abstract oil painting and very selfishly hung the painting in my office. Not a day passes without a thought for Kim ( collecting is a great thing as it allows you to think about the person or the place or the story ....)
Am I speaking to the painter or the hairdresser today? Tell me more about this new passion.
You are talking to both, I am a hair stylist... who is in the creative industry. I am also an artist.. which is also in the creative industry. I think there’s not much difference between painting and creating hair or designing fashion, it’s all related. It’s about whether you have the eye or the vision, it's about telling a story.
Please share a few good stories about the ladies who came thru Hong Kong.
I have been very fortunate to have had my hands on some of the world’s most beautiful women, including Princess Diana and many leading actresses and actors from all over the world that have passed through Hong Kong in the past 40 years. I have been very privileged to be their hairstylist of choice while in Hong Kong.
You showed me photos of your new home in Australia, it looks stunning! Will it be your holiday home? You are not thinking of leaving your home of the last 40 years are you?
I am very much looking forward to having some space in Aus so I can spend some rest time there. I love Hong Kong as I’ve been here forever, for most of my life in fact. For Aus, right know we are going through our pandemic as well, it’s been a bit of a shake-up and then realising how fortunate we are in Hong Kong. Let’s see, the future’s open.
You always had a passion for beautiful things, your home is amazing, your table settings spectacular, you drive to the flower market every week and create dramatic arrangements just for the pleasure of your eyes (pour le plaisir des yeux) Did Covid change anything in your life in the last year? (hint ... do you miss our shopping hunts aux Puces in Paris)
I like beautiful things. I am born with an eye that has vision and when I see things I want to make them as beautiful as can be. Whether it is doing hair, doing a table setting, designing the home or even dressing up a client.
Covid has changed a lot of things for me and I realise how important my home is and how much I get pleasure out of living in my home. I haven’t spent much time in HK in the past few years as I have been travelling around. Now I have had all this time here, I am super happy. Covid really made me appreciate what I have. I certainly miss our treasure hunts in Paris searching and finding beautiful and special things, a feast for our eyes. it was just an amazing journey. Definitely miss that!
